Weekend trip to Austin, TX

This past weekend I went down to Austin, TX to see my mom. We spent the weekend watching movies, doing some girl talk, eating at delicious restaurants, and shopping so much that our whole bodies ached! I mean seriously though, we shopped... a lot. So much that I had to pack an extra suitcase and check it at the airport. It was so much fun though and it's always fun to see my mom. She, at the ripe old age of 50 40 is a snowbird. During the summers she is here is Wisconsin, but during the winters she escapes the "frozen tundra" (as she so lovingly calls Wisconsin) and heads south like the birds.

I decided to only take pictures on my phone this trip because I knew we would mostly be shopping, so I didn't want to carry around my heavy camera all day :) Enjoy my quick trip down south!

We went to Bess Bistro for Brunch on Sunday. If you don't know, it's Sandra Bullock's restaurant... and my waffles we delish!
Taco Cabana... I grew up loving this place. Last year while in San Antonio I had it again and it was very disappointing :(
There are these trailers everywhere. Some are BBQ, some are taco stands, but this one was a cupcake trailer... yum! And so cute!
On my way back to the "Frozen Tundra"
Thanks mom for a fun weekend!
I promise to blog about my 2010 travels in the next few days! There are a lot of pictures to go through first!

2010 Part 1!

2010 has been an amazing year for me both personally and professionally! So, I decided to do two posts, one will be a recap of the sessions I did over the past year including births, engagements, weddings, families, and children. The second post will be what I've been doing personally including my travels over the past year.

Let me just start off by saying that I seriously cannot believe all of the great people I have met doing photography. When I started this "hobby" of mine, I never thought I would become some personally involved in every session and I never thought it would turn into a major career change. I never thought I would truly love doing this so much. Since I was a child I always said that I was going to be a doctor. That was my dream.

I have always done very well in school, especially science, and being a doctor seemed like the right path to take. But after college, I decided to take a year off and work before I went to medical school. That was the year I discovered that maybe being a physician wasn't my destiny. I worked for an Eye Bank and was completely immersed in the medical field. I met many people who's lives revolved around work and medicine, and I realized that more times than not, when you become involved in medicine, it is all that you do. I would say to myself "But I love to travel! When I am going to get time off to see the world and meet new people?!" The more I became involved in science and medicine, the less passionate I felt about starting my career path as a physician.

That year after college was also the year I married my husband. That one event changed my whole life. I became so enamored and immersed in the beauty of weddings. I decided to take this little "hobby" of taking pictures to a new level. I booked my first wedding and I cannot believe the passion I had when it came to wedding portraits. In the past two years, I have never been happier working than I am when I pick up a camera or I am sitting at my computer editing images. I constantly struggle with the decision to not pursue a medical career, so much so that I decided to pursue a Master in Public Health degree this year.

Within weeks of starting my graduate classes, I knew that was a horrible decision. I would be sitting in class editing pictures on my laptop or perusing my favorite photography blogs, and I had no interest in what I was being taught. That was a huge eye opener for me! So, I took an academic leave of absence and I still struggle with that decision on a daily basis: should I go back, did I make the right decision, should I just get the degree as something to fall back on, can I make a living doing something I love or should I just stick with a career that I know I'm good at but have no passion for?

I'm still struggling with my decision, but I'm telling you this because when I look over the images and people I have met this past year, it makes my choice seem right. I still haven't decided if I'll being going back into my program next fall, but if 2011 brings even half of the amazing people, moments, or images into my life as 2010 did, then I'll feel blessed. Who knew a science geek would love photography so much!
So finally, please enjoy my recap of my 2010 sessions :)

These are the day my nephew Baby C was born.
Then we did his newborn session 6 days later :)
And before I knew it, he was 6 months old!
Some awesomely, super fantastic, amazing couples got engaged! Congrats again to you all!

Ok, Cory and Jack aren't engaged, but we did a quick little couples session with them anyway. Who can blame me, they are a great looking couple!

And 2010 has been extra special for the couples that were married! I felt so honored to be a part of each and every wedding!

And then there were all the amazing families that I met!
And finally, I shot my first two boudoir sessions in 2010!
Thank you 2010 for being so great! And here is looking forward to 2011 :)
